Overview:
Galicia, Spain, 2 Jan 1921. More than 200 emigrants die when the vessel Santa Isabel falls off Sálvora Island. Three island women, Mara, Josefa, and Cipriana, set off on a flimsy skiff to save the stranded. Cynical authorities laud them as heroes, but an inquisitive Argentine journalist, León, starts asking unpleasant questions.
