Cheol (Shin Seong-il), a lowly auto mechanic, and Yeong-hui, a maid at the French ambassador's home, happen to meet by chance one rainy day. Cheol is driven by a strong desire to excel in life. He claims to be the son of a businessman and poses as the owner of a fancy automobile. Attracted to Cheol, Yeong-hui also poses as the daughter of the French ambassador, and the two agree to meet only on rainy days, when she may conceal her true identity by wearing an expensive French raincoat.
